Aon and Crowe Paradis Partnership Delivers One-stop Solution to MSP Compliance

PRNewswire-FirstCall — Aon Corporation (NYSE: AOC), the leading global provider of risk management services, today announced a partnership with Crowe Paradis Services Corporation, the nation’s fastest growing provider of Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) compliance services. The two firms have been working together on discrete engagements for nearly a year to prepare clients for the upcoming mandatory insurance reporting requirements and are now jointly bringing to market a one-stop solution to compliance, which includes access to Crowe Paradis’ MSP Navigator product.

By July 1, 2009, the Mandatory Insurer Reporting (MIR) amendments to the MSP demand all organizations that provide liability insurance, no-fault insurance, workers’ compensation and self-insurance have a compliance plan registered with the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). Insurance companies and self-insureds are the organizations most affected by this requirement as any penalties for non-compliance accrue to the entity that retains the risk.

Working in partnership, Aon and Crowe Paradis offer a comprehensive solution combining legal, medical, and information technology expertise. This approach drives broad compliance with all aspects of the MSP with successful negotiation with CMS. The result minimizes clients’ workload while maximizing their cost savings. In head-to-head comparisons, Crowe Paradis has consistently delivered tens of thousands of dollars in savings on Medicare Set Asides allocations and conditional payment negotiations.

“Our focus is on enabling claims cost mitigation best practices by developing innovative solutions for our clients,” said Brian Thede, CEO of Aon Recovery, a specialized claims cost reduction group within Aon responsible for managing the partnership with Crowe Paradis. “As the fastest-growing and most highly regarded service provider in the space, Crowe Paradis certainly meets our best-in-class standards and adds significantly to Aon’s solution set by specifically addressing and simplifying the Medicare Compliance challenge.”

A key component of the Aon-Crowe Paradis offering is the MSP Navigator product, designed to manage the entire MIR process for an organization as an outsourced solution. Some of the difficulties that the product can address include:

  • Reporting on MIR-required data that is not found in distinct,
    searchable fields in claims systems
  • Drawing legacy claims systems within one organization or several
claims from several claims organizations together into one repository
    and one reporting process
  • Determining Medicare eligibility status on claimants in an efficient,
    large-scale manner
  • Providing visibility on the status of CMS reporting
  • Managing execution reporting and consequent interaction with CMS, COB,
and MSPRC in order to minimize the impact to claims personnel
  • Discovering, verifying and negotiating conditional liens associated
    with your organization
  • Providing consistent reporting to CMS, even among the non-workers’
compensation parts of a claims organization that lack experience with
    the MSP statute
  • Identifying cases requiring Medicare Set-Aside arrangements
  • Considering legal issues of both state and federal law through a
    sophisticated Rules Engine

In addition, the offering includes access to a team of experienced nurses and lawyers to handle complex issues as well as numerous connections with Third-Party Administrators through carrier contracts.

“While the MIR reporting requirements are new, the challenges of extracting meaningful data from claims handling software are not new to 2009,” said Kenneth Paradis, CEO of Crowe Paradis. “The engine within the MSP Navigator has driven successful data projects for the property and casualty industry for more than a decade.

“With Aon, we’re providing a blend of software and personnel uniquely poised to deliver the highest degree of compliance with the MIR and cost mitigation of the MSP along with the ease and certitude of a true turnkey, outsourcing solution,” Paradis concluded.
